Project Summary

  • Designed a Pokémon-themed desktop humidifier inspired by Koffing.

  • Balanced functional product design with aesthetic styling.

  • Developed a concept suitable for home prototyping and manufacturing.

Goals/Requirements

  • Create a recognizable Koffing-inspired design without sacrificing functionality.

  • Design components for easy at-home fabrication and assembly.

  • Integrate electronics while maintaining a clean exterior.

  • Optimize the internal layout within a compact enclosure.

Outcome

  • Used Koffing's body as the integrated water reservoir.

  • Incorporated a capacitive touch interface to eliminate the need for physical buttons.

  • Concealed the humidity sensor within a pinhole feature.

  • Determined active cooling was unnecessary due to low thermal loads.

Conclusion

  • Produced a functional concept that merged character-inspired aesthetics with product design.

  • Identified opportunities to improve internal space utilization and vapor distribution.

  • Recommended future work including thermal (FEA) analysis, vibration reduction, and EMI shielding.

  • Had to make a lot of assumptions

  • A lot of wasted space - could add a dan to help disperse the vapor

  • Conduct FEA analysis for an in-depth thermal analysis

  • Reduce vibration frequency in the boards

  • Potentially add EMI shiels to single components
